Alter's Violin Shop realizes that it is difficult for even a well informed consumer to sort through the vast array of instruments available at both the local level and also via such sources as the internet.  Discerning the country of origin, quality of craftmanship, tone quality, and playability can be very taxing. We dedicate ourselves to doing this work, and sell only instruments which meet our high standards. Not only do we seek to find affordable gems created by modern skilled and reputable workshops, but we also maintain an inventory of quality older instruments.

We welcome you to browse our featured inventory of nice older offerings and visit our supplier links (from the home page) to acquaint yourself with our favorites from the world of new instruments.  All of our instruments are set-up and adjusted for excellence in performance!

WARRANTY AND TRADE-IN INFORMATION

All of our instruments are guaranteed for a period of 2 years. The warranty covers any problems which may crop up with the instrument.   Examples may be an open glue joint, slipping peg, or crack.   The warranty does not cover accidental damage or maintenence items such as the bridge, strings, or horsehair of the bow. While the need is rare for warranty work, rest assured we are here if something should happen!

Our beginning level instruments come with an 80% trade in value, applied to your next instrument purchase.  Instruments beyond the beginning level come with our 100% trade-in value.  In this way, you are assured of retaining your investment if you ever decide to upgrade!

$1700.00 15" Unlabeled European Viola c.1950 with optional case and bow.

This Czech or possibly German Viola (above) is an excellent choice for the advancing player. This viola plays easily, and offers a full, rich, even sound. The wood is beautifully figured, and is finished in spirit varnish. The instrument has a repair to the treble side of the pegbox, but this should not present any future issues. If the buyer of this viola would like to purchase a good used bow and case, the instrument comes with the option of such. The bow is a Codabow Colours model bow ($345.00), and the case is a Bobelock model 1005 with a black exterior and wine plush interior ($150.00). Both of these are used, but are in great shape. The bow has fresh horsehair. For additional specs on these products, you can find them on codabows.com and bobelock.com.
