This is a truely lovely violin. It is asthetically appealing both to see and to play. The wood is absolutely gorgeous, and has a bit of antiqueing done by the maker. The beautiful one piece back is an absolute stand out!

The neck is not the typical German neck, but is of a very comfortably smaller diameter. This would make a great instrument for the musician with a smaller hand. The violin sounds lovely, is well balanced, resonate, and plays easily!

OK, so the surgeon didn't have the most beautiful purfling on the block! We don't ever expect this violin to be in the hall of fame for esthetics of craftsmanship. I would imagine that Dr. Cordier was elderly when his hands carved his perhaps one and only violin. What a shame he didn't make hundreds though, because it sounds and plays absolutely wonderfully!

$3400.00 A. H. Cordier, M.D. Violin 1917

Labeled as "A. H. Cordier, M.D.; Surgeon; 510 Commerce Building; Kansas City, MO; 1917".

This violin is a true piece of Kanas City, MO history. Surgeon, A. H. Cordier carved this violin in 1917. It is many things: a great sounding and playing instrument, a conversation piece, and possibly a 'one of a kind'.

The violin has an orange spirit varnish (over golden ground). The spruce of the top is very tight grained and beautiful. The back is a one piece back.

The arching pattern is a bit higher than typically seen, but not to an extreme. Perhaps this is what gives this fiddle its pleasingly deep sound, without being tubby, or thin. The violin is very rich sounding and would work great to play 'fiddle'.

This is a great sounding violin - the sound really outshines the price!

This Guarneri pattern violin is in absolutely excellent condition. It has never suffered any cracks or needed neck work/etc.

The varnish is a wonderful, durable, thin application of spirit varnish in an attractive honey brown color.

The violin plays very well, and has an even, clear, clean sound clear through the upper positions on all strings.

$4000.00 D'Nicolas Violin 1873 Mirecourt, France

Looking for a French violin that can be absolutely identified? This violin has both the makers branding in the inside of the back (in lieu of a paper label), and matching identification information handwritten directly to the inside of the back.

The branding information reads as follows: "A La Ville de Cremonne; D'Nicolas Aine"

The handwritten information is inside the back of the violin, parallel to the center seam and in the middle of the lower treble bout. It is one long line of small cursive writing which extends from about opposite the lower eye of the f-hole clear to the lower lining. It reads as follows: "D'Nicolas Aine Lutherie a Mirecourt _____?_____ 1873"

This is a bright, and loud violin with an interesting one piece back.

$4800.00 Joseph E. Rodier Violin 1912

This violin is made by one of Kansas City's well known luthiers.

The label reads as follows: "Joseph E. Rodier; Kansas City, MO 1912"

The tone of this instrument is clear and clean sounding even in the upper positions of all the strings. The varnish is an oil varnish and has some checking or crazing due to age and climate. No worries though, the violin is very well protected as oil varnish is a superb finish!

$7500.00 Joseph Corretelli Violin 1912

What an outstandingly great sounding and playing violin this is!

Labeled as follows: "Joseph Corretelli in Pedrona; Anno, 1912; Made for Wm. Lewis & Son, Chicago; Grade 3-1/2; Copy of Stradivari"

This violin has beautiful wood, and craftsmanship. The oil varnish is a deeper red that the violin photographed as. It is a bit more of a wine color.

If you are looking for a gutsy violin that is hard to overpower, yet that can play very sweetly, this could be the one! The tone is fairly deep, and is well balanced and clear.
